To recognize the achievement of a full-time graduating student enrolled in Kennebecasis Valley High School. The award is to be granted to a graduating student who intends to attend post-secondary education, in the fields of the Creative and Performing Arts. This is intended to encompass all forms of Creative and Performing Arts disciplines to include (but not limited to) Theatre, Music, Dance, Media, Design, Interactive, Television, Radio, Film and related fields.

This Award is named after Suzanne-Doyle Yerxa, who taught at KVHS from 1977 (a year after the school first opened) until June 2010. She pioneered the award-winning theatre program at the school, impacting thousands of students over her tenure. She directed, choreographed and costumed the school’s musicals every year from 1991 to 2010. She was a champion for enriched education in the school system, insisting that an effective education needed to balance academic studies with extra-curricular activities emphasizing the three as Arts, Athletics and Academics. She served as the District Enrichment Coordinator, Chair of the school’s English Department and received the Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education in 2008 for inspiring students in “Developing a Passion for Learning”.

Suzanne Doyle-Yerxa encouraged students to achieve their personal best, to become active in their community and to always carry confidence with them, founded in the knowledge that anyone can reach their goals, whatever they may be. She provided students with opportunities for success, both inside and outside the classroom.

This award is intended to honour her, by continuing her legacy and provide students who have chosen to further their education by exploring a career in the arts with the opportunities for success.

The first two recipients were awarded the Suzanne Doyle-Yerxa Award on June 25,2010
